How To Mix and Apply EarthDye Hair and Beard Dye

Natural hair dye mix and application instructions. Applying EarthDye natural hair and beard dye is simple. The instructions for all our colors are the same except for natural black which is a two-step process. The only difference will be how long you need to leave it on. Applying EarthDye might seem difficult at first, but after a few applications, it will be incredibly easy, applying the dye in as little as 15 minutes.

Step 1: Prepare Your Hair

What You'll Need

  • Medium sized glass mixing bowl
  • 1 and 1/2 cup room warm tap water (not hot)
  • Application brush or Spoon for Beards
  • Gloves for protection
  • Clarifying Shampoo (Our Henna Shampoo is perfect for this) or Click Here to see a list of shampoos to avoid.

For Hair Dye Application

Start by washing the hair thoroughly 2 times with a clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoo basically strips all oil and dirt from hair. If this is not available, use an oil-free shampoo. Do not condition your hair after shampooing. Your hair does not have to be 100% dry before application. Toweled dry is best.

For Beard/Facial Hair Application

Trim your facial hair FIRST (if needed)! Then shampoo your beard, mustache, or any facial hair to be dyed, twice by very gently scrubbing with a beard or tooth brush. Scrubbing too harshly can result in irritated skin & a burning sensation during application. Not following this step will result in poor results, as it is very important to remove excess oils before application.

If you normally use conditioner, it helps to brush the hair very well prior to shampooing to prevent tangles.

Step 2: Mix and Apply

๐Ÿง” Beard Dye Application

  1. Mix only the amount you need with warm tap water
  2. Apply evenly to facial hair until completely covered
  3. Leave on 35-45 minutes
  4. Shampoo 12-24 hours after application

๐Ÿ’‡โ€โ™€๏ธ Hair Dye Application

  1. Mix EarthDye pack with 1 1/4- 1 1/2 cups of warm tap water
  2. Apply to hair in layers from left ear to right
  3. Leave on hair 45-60 minutes
  4. Rinse thoroughly with water only
  5. Do not shampoo less than 18 hours after application
โš ๏ธ Exception for Natural Red Head (Pure Henna)

When using Natural Red Head (Pure Henna), conditioner can be used if preferred after shampooing, otherwise wait to condition hair 24 hours after rinsing out dye.

Important Color Development Note

It is not unusual to see green, red or even purple shades after application of ANY color except for Natural Red Head. This is natural and OK. It takes 12-48 hours after application to achieve final color results.
